A community band bringing wind players together since 2022

About

Established on Valentine’s Day 2022 by Lynne Anstice Brown and Jacqui Ross, Skye Wind Band brings together members of the Skye community to play a wide selection of music from TV, Film, Classical and Jazz.

Skye Wind Band rehearse twice a month in central Skye and perform in a variety of venues, public and private events. The band have recently become a registered charity – no mean feat for a band that has barely been running for just two years.

Meet The Team:

Lynne Anstice Brown - Musical Director of Skye Wind Band

Lynne Anstice Brown – Musical Director

A lifetime professional woodwinds specialist, Lynne travelled the world playing in a wide variety of ensembles from chamber music to concert bands and from big bands to theatre pit orchestras. With well over three decades of teaching experience behind her she now teaches clarinet, flute, saxophone and even recorder and piano since moving to Skye in 2013.

Lynne is the Highland and Islands’ area representative for The Wind Band Association of Great Britain,

Sam Anstice Brown

Sam Anstice Brown – Band Librarian

Having graduated from Berklee in the USA, Sam enjoyed a long professional career as drummer for many artists from Imelda May to Georgie Fame. He toured Europe and Middle East with leading saxophonist Gilad Atzmon and enjoyed cruises and festivals and corporate events with The London Swing Orchestra, Digby Fairweather and George Melly. He also happens to be one of the very few piano tuners in Scotland.

Mike Norton – Assistant Librarian

Mike has been in the brass band world for many decades. He has played a variety of instruments throughout his musical career but is best known as tuba player for the World famous Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band.  His wealth of band-knowledge, and his experienced eye, make him quite a catch for the Skye Wind Band!

Jean Dow – Committee Chair.

As well as playing flute and piccolo in the Skye Wind Band, Jean is our Chairperson and helps coordinate and organise the events we put on. We simply couldn’t do what we do without her tireless help and support.  She is a highly qualified medical herbalist and is much in demand on Skye and beyond. Hobbies include looking after her  menagerie of rescue animals.

Claire Irons – Band Treasurer

Claire’s interest in music began with drums, playing in rock and country groups before a teaching career curtailed her free time. After a break from playing music she took up the piano but in recent years has devoted her time to the flute. This in turn led her to join the wind band so she could enjoy playing in a group environment again and have lots of fun.

Skye Wind Band Charity Logo
We recently became a registered charity! This is a huge help to us in these early stages of establishing the band. Now we are eligible for ‘GIFT AID’ when we receive donations.
We have a collection of instruments which we can lend out to band members. We have instruments on loan and some which have been donated to the band. Do you fancy trying one out?….
